Transport fares increased
Bowing before the demands of public transporters, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Sindh has increased the public transport fares by Re1 from June 1.
Confirming the increase in public transport fares, Sindh Secretary Transport Iqbal Dewan said that the notification regarding increase in public transport fares was issued by the end of last month prior to lowering of POL products prices by the government.
The secretary said that transporters were demanding Rs2 increase in public transport fares but the government only agreed to increase Re1. On the other hand, Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) Chairman Irshad Bukari told The News that they had been demanding Re1 increase in public transport fares for the last two months.
People were not aware of the notification but they strongly reacted and lambasted the government for enhancing fares when asked to comment.
